The Alagoas Curassow is an endangered bird on the brink of extinction found only in Brazil, considered extinct in the wild due to deforestation and hunting. The total population of 130 birds only persists in two separate captive populations, with plans for reintroduction in place.
SAVE Brasil is a Brazilian conservation organization that works to protect bird species and their habitats in the country. Pedro Develey, director of SAVE Brasil (BirdLife International´s partner in Brazil) has spearheads the program's initiatives.
