The Spanish Imperial Eagle is a large bird of prey, with adults measuring up to 30 inches (75 cm) in length and boasting a wingspan of around 6.5–7 feet (2–2.1 meters). These eagles have a distinctive dark brown body, pale shoulder patches, and a striking yellowish-brown crown and nape. The species is native to the Iberian Peninsula, primarily found in Spain, with small populations in Portugal. Spanish Imperial Eagles feed primarily on rabbits, but their diet can also include birds and small mammals. They prefer open woodlands, dehesas (savannas with scattered trees), and forested areas near grasslands. The eagles build large nests high in trees and are monogamous, maintaining long-term pair bonds.
