The Wied's Black-tufted-ear Marmoset is a small, social primate, typically characterized by black ear tufts, a grayish-brown coat, and white facial markings. It measures approximately 20 cm (8 inches) in body length, with a tail length of about 25–30 cm (10–12 inches) and weighs around 300–350 grams (0.7–0.8 lbs). This marmoset is highly adapted to forested environments and is an omnivorous species, feeding on fruit, insects, and sap. Known for its agility, C. kuhlii spends most of its time in the tree canopy, where it relies on a complex social structure for communication and foraging. Restricted to the Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil, this marmoset’s survival is threatened by habitat loss due to agricultural expansion, urban development, and competition from non-native marmoset species introduced through the pet trade.
