The Caucasian Bison (Bison bonasus caucasicus) was a subspecies of the European bison (Bison bonasus) that occurred only in the northern Caucasus mountains and foothills. Extensive forest and human expansion led to reduced open habitats, including hunting and land use conversion to agriculture. By the early 20th century, Caucasian Bison became extinct in the wild.
