The Chinese Three-striped Box Turtle is a critically endangered turtle species found in China and parts of Southeast Asia. It is currently listed as endangered. The estimated remaining population is unknown, but it is suspected that the population of this species has been reduced by over 95% in the past three generations. The main threats to this species include habitat loss due to deforestation and urbanization, collection for the pet trade, and overharvesting for traditional medicine. Additionally, pollution and habitat fragmentation further contribute to their decline.
