The Wondiwoi Tree-kangaroo is an elusive, medium-sized tree-dwelling marsupial with dense, dark brown to black fur, adapted to the cool, misty high-elevation forests of the Wondiwoi Mountains. This species is characterized by a robust body, short limbs, and a prehensile tail that aids in its arboreal lifestyle. Adults are estimated to weigh between 9–11 kg (20–24 lbs) and reach a body length of 50–70 cm (20–28 inches), not including the tail. As a herbivore, it likely feeds on leaves, ferns, and high-altitude vegetation. The Wondiwoi Tree-kangaroo has adapted to a unique high-altitude habitat, and its solitary behavior and restricted range make it highly vulnerable to environmental changes and human disturbance.
