The Przewalski’s Horse (Equus ferus przewalskii), also known as the takhi, is the only remaining truly wild horse species. Characterized by a stocky build, erect mane, and dun-colored coat with a dark dorsal stripe, these horses have never been domesticated. Once extinct in the wild by the late 1960s, conservation efforts have successfully reintroduced them into their native habitats in Mongolia and China. Living in social groups, they graze on grasses and herbs, playing a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of the steppe ecosystems. Despite conservation successes, they remain endangered due to ongoing threats from habitat loss, climate change, and genetic dilution.
