The European Hamster (Cricetus cricetus) is a rodent species native to parts of Europe and Asia that is facing extinction. The remaining population of European Hamsters has significantly declined due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and changes in agricultural practices. Conversion of their grassland and farmland habitats into urban areas and monoculture fields has resulted in the loss of suitable nesting sites and food sources for the European Hamster. Pesticide use and the reduction of biodiversity in agricultural landscapes also pose threats to their survival. Conservation efforts focus on implementing habitat management practices that promote diverse vegetation, creating protected areas, and raising awareness about the importance of conserving this nearly extinct species.
