The Galápagos Penguin (Spheniscus mendiculus) is a unique species of penguin found exclusively in the Galápagos Islands. It is the only penguin species that lives north of the equator in the wild but it is classified as endangered. The estimated remaining population of Galápagos Penguins is around 1,200 individuals. They face several threats such as climate change, oceanic events (El Niño), predation, and competition for limited food resources.
