The Maui ʻĀkepa was a small Hawaiian honeycreeper, measuring approximately 10 centimeters (4 inches) in length. Males exhibited a dull bronze-yellow plumage, while females had a greenish top and yellow belly. Both sexes possessed a short, conical bill and a long, notched tail. The species was known for its distinctive foraging behavior, often searching for insects and spiders among tree bark and foliage, and occasionally feeding on nectar from native flowers. The Maui ʻĀkepa was often observed in small flocks, displaying active and agile movements through the forest canopy.
