The Northern Pig-tailed Macaque is a medium-sized primate characterized by its short, pig-like tail, which measures up to 23 centimeters and is often carried curled over its back. Adults have a robust build with males being larger than females. Their fur is generally light brown to grayish, with a darker patch of hair on the crown of their head. Distinctive dark lines extend from the outer corners of their eyes, giving the appearance of applied mascara. These macaques are diurnal and omnivorous, feeding on a varied diet that includes fruits, seeds, leaves, and small animals. They are social animals, typically forming groups ranging from 9 to 81 individuals, with a complex social hierarchy.
