The White-cheeked Macaque is a medium-sized monkey with a distinctive white patch of fur on each cheek, contrasting with its darker brown or olive coat. This species was only recently discovered in 2015 in the mountains of southeastern Tibet. Adults measure around 50–70 cm (20–28 inches) in body length, with a tail length of about 40–60 cm (16–24 inches), and weigh between 7–13 kg (15–29 lbs). These primates are diurnal and primarily arboreal, though they occasionally forage on the ground. The species is mainly frugivorous but also consumes leaves, seeds, flowers, and small invertebrates, playing an important role in seed dispersal within their mountainous habitats.
