The Northern Bald Ibis (Geronticus eremita) is an endangered bird species, characterized by its glossy black plumage, bald red face, and long, downward-curved beak. Once widespread across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, this species is now restricted to a few small populations in Morocco, Turkey, and Syria. The remaining population of Northern Bald Ibises is extremely small, with less than 250 individuals. Habitat loss, pesticide use, and disturbance in breeding areas are major threats. Conservation efforts involve habitat restoration, captive breeding, and reintroduction programs to establish new colonies and ensure the survival of this distinctive and highly endangered bird species.
