The Northern Muriqui (Brachyteles hypoxanthus), also known as the Woolly Spider Monkey, is one of the world's most endangered primates. One of the largest primates in the Americas and known for its peaceful nature, it is characterized by its long limbs, prehensile tail, and a body covered in light brown or grayish fur. The species is arboreal and spends much of its time in the upper canopy of Brazil's Atlantic Forest, where it feeds on leaves, fruits, flowers, and bark. Northern Muriquis are notable for their non-hierarchical social structure and strong bonds between individuals. However, habitat loss, fragmentation, and hunting have pushed this species to the brink of extinction, highlighting the urgent need for conservation action to safeguard its future.
