The Pemba Flying Fox (Pteropus voeltzkowi), also known as the Pemba Fruit Bat, is a bat species found only on the island of Pemba, off the coast of Tanzania. Reduced to a few hundred animals in the early 1990s, there have been small increases in the population in recent years. Habitat loss, hunting, and disturbance of roosting sites are the main threats to their survival. Conservation efforts involve protecting their forest habitats, enforcing hunting regulations, and raising awareness about their ecological importance.
