The Riverine Rabbit (Bunolagus monticularis) is a small, critically endangered rabbit species found only in the central Karoo region of South Africa. It has one of the smallest ranges of any rabbit species, and its population is estimated to be fewer than 210 individuals. Habitat loss, degradation, and competition with livestock are the primary threats. Conservation efforts focus on habitat restoration, predator management, and captive breeding programs to prevent its extinction.
