The Andaman Serpent-eagle is a medium-sized bird of prey, measuring about 45–55 cm (18–22 inches) in length, with a wingspan of around 110 cm (43 inches). It has a dark brown body with pale underparts and yellow legs. The eagle has a distinctive short crest, yellow eyes, and a hooked beak, giving it a fierce appearance. As the name suggests, it primarily feeds on reptiles, especially snakes and lizards, but also preys on small mammals and birds. The Andaman Serpent-eagle is a forest-dwelling species, most commonly found in dense tropical forests, mangroves, and occasionally in open clearings on the Andaman Islands. It is a solitary bird and uses the forest canopy to hunt, often perching high in trees while searching for prey.
