The Sumatran Rhinoceros is a critically endangered rhinoceros species found on the island of Sumatra and in Borneo. The remaining population of Sumatran Rhinoceros is estimated to be no more than 250 mature individuals. Habitat loss and fragmentation, primarily due to deforestation and illegal logging, are the main threats to their survival. Poaching for their horns, which are highly valued in traditional medicine, is also a significant factor contributing to their decline. Conservation efforts involve intensive anti-poaching measures, habitat protection, and captive breeding programs to prevent the extinction of this critically endangered rhinoceros species.
