Dr. Dean Biggins is a distinguished ecologist with a profound interest in grassland ecology, spanning over four decades. His research has encompassed a diverse range of themes, from behavioral ecology and predator-prey relationships to wildlife disease ecology. Dr. Biggins' work is firmly rooted in its application to the conservation and recovery of federally listed species. His extensive fieldwork has taken him across various locations, including the United States, China, and Inner Mongolia. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with students from numerous universities and conducted research on a wide array of taxa, from carnivores like black-footed ferrets to rodents, arthropods, and bacteria. Currently, his research focus centers on the ecology of plague, including its hosts and vectors, with an emphasis on understanding its impact on wildlife populations and ecosystems during inter-epizootic periods. Dr. Biggins holds the position of Scientist Emeritus at the U.S. Geological Survey, and he continues to contribute to the field of biology as Adjunct Faculty at Colorado State University.
