The Appalachian Mountains Joint Venture (AMJV) stands as a collaborative force, uniting over 55 state and federal agencies, conservation organizations, and universities in a regional partnership. The AMJV is dedicated to the conservation of habitat, benefiting birds, wildlife, and people across the core of the Appalachian Region. Spanning from the southwestern Appalachians in Alabama to the northeastern highlands in southern New York, this expansive area covers 103 million acres across multiple states. Encompassing significant portions of Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and all of West Virginia, the AMJV holds some of the largest remaining forest expanses in the eastern United States. Positioned on the campus of Virginia Tech within the Conservation Management Institute, the AMJV actively pursues its mission and vision to preserve the rich biodiversity and ecological balance of the Appalachian Mountains.
