Save The Bay, established in 1970, emerged from grassroots efforts to thwart an oil refinery proposed for Tiverton's shores, marking the beginning of its role as the vigilant guardian of Narragansett Bay. This independent, member-supported, nonprofit organization pursues its mission through advocacy, education, and habitat restoration and adaptation. By monitoring government and citizen activities that may harm the Bay's environmental quality, Save The Bay advocates for robust policies and legislation. Actively engaged in rebuilding compromised habitats due to pollution, outdated infrastructure, storms, and sea level rise, the organization is committed to preserving the Bay's ecological balance. Save The Bay further cultivates a sense of responsibility among future Bay stewards through education programs, fostering understanding and connection among both children and adults with the Bay and its diverse inhabitants.
